The Mattawan Fire Department responds to fires including structures, fields and/or grassy areas, vehicle fires, smoke investigations, Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarms, vehicular accidents requiring extrication (Jaws of Life), HAZMAT incidents, power lines and/or trees in the roadway, and various other emergency calls.

In addition, the members of the Mattawan Fire Department assist the members of Van Buren EMS (VBEMS) and Mattawan Quick Response. The fire department also works with the Gobles/Pine Grove, Paw Paw, Lawton, South County, Texas Township, and Oshtemo fire departments on initial and mutual aid agreements.
